Billy Crosby (b.1992) Graduated from Royal College of Art in 2024. Previously he was a prize winner at the John Moores Painting Prize 2018.
Crosby is concerned with exploring ways to drive his painting into unexpected places with an emphasis on materiality, and a psychedelic configuration of perspectives, the micro and the macro constantly shifting and muddling into one another. He is interested in the idea that art is now situated downstream of culture and the holistic view that painting, photography and ai image generation all occupy the same space of ‘image making’. The artist utilises machine learning as a ‘second imagination’ alongside his own, in the conception and process of making a painting, combining the strange machine fallibility of AI with the sympathetic human fallibility of the hand.

Billy Crosby also shares a collaborative practice with Siân Newlove-Drew. The duo creates work through the prism of their romantic relationship, with wonderment, cuteness, and feelings of specialness serving as tenets in their world.
