Bio

EMMA GIBSON is a British artist exploring the uncertain state of reality. Having studied at Open School East and University of the Arts London, she currently lives and works in the Highlands of Scotland. Emma’s large scale installations are the result of both traditional and technological making processes, often using 3D-scanning and digital representations to create physical sculptures using sustainable handmade techniques, inside total environments. Emma regularly collaborates with scientists and researchers in their fields of interest.

Emma is interested in the idea of an ecological “uncanny valley” – where what we consider to be the natural world is not exactly as it seems any more, coaxing out an eerie feeling of discomfort, environmentally/ technologically/ psychologically. Recent projects have focused on coastlines and shores as a metaphor for the edge of reality and a loss of control.
